The Fattest State

I ran across this article today on ABC News/Health called “Fattest State’s Lawmakers Shed Pounds, Fried Stuff.” Congrats, Mississippi, we are the fattest state and I’m one of them (haha). So now that everyone knows that, let’s get to the actual part that deals with Corinth.

There is a picture of Eric Powell working out with this article. If any of you know Mr. Powell, you know that he is a great man and is really nice. He can be seen around Corinth eating out and shopping, and he will talk to you and listen to what you have to say. So please click on the link at the bottom of the page to see the example of what Mr. Powell is doing and to read the article.

The article also says that MS had the highest obesity rate in the US. The most recent percentage from 2008 says the state is 32.8% obese people. As I have said, I am overweight so please do not take this as I’m trying to call out obese citizens because I’m not. I get in trouble every time I go to the doctor about my weight and the problems that it has caused.

It is so hard to lose weight and like many people, the weight goes up and down. In this article, Haley Barbour even admits to struggling with his weight. He even cracked a joke so go check it out.

So what can we do to lose the excess weight? My husband and myself have recently joined a gym because I see what my weight is doing to me and I’m tired of it. It is my health or my life and I chose to live so that means eating better and working out. And trust me folks, I don’t like working out by any means but sometimes we have to do what we’ve gotta do. I’m not saying run out and join a gym or anything, everyone has to make a decision for themselves and no one else can make that decision. I know some people are saying “I don’t have the time for the gym” or “I don’t have the money.” There is a simple solution, cut back on what you eat, eat healthier (try to eat only so many calories) and walk around the house or Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart is a good place to walk around and there are people in there everyday just walking around the store for exercise. Another good place that is free is the Crossroads Arena, the park, downtown area or up and down the road by your house.

I want everyone to live a happy, healthy, and long life so let’s start taking better care of ourselves.
